Kes

Kes learned to braid growing up as a young child on Detroit’s east side. Born to Nigerian immigrant parents, braided hair styles were the norm in her community. As she became an adolescent and had the desire to wear more complex braided styles that were in alignment with the trends, she taught herself and learned from family members the techniques of braiding with extensions, installing sew-ins and two strand twist extensions; always learning by styling her own hair and the people in her community.

She began doing loc maintenance along with braiding and natural hairstyling while attending Wayne State University where she met Nefertiti at Textures by Nefertiti. Since then, Kes has been taking clients under Nefertiti’s guidance and mentorship.

Mia

At a very young age, Mia discovered her love for styling her natural hair. From struggling to keep her thick curly strands freshly flat ironed, to spending hours in the mirror carving out boxes to create beautifully assembled styles, she has cultivated deep knowledge, insight, and understanding of all things natural hair.

Despite the fact that Mia knew she enjoyed hairstyling, it was only until after she graduated from Michigan State University, that she decided to go for a license in Cosmetology at Diamond Designs Beauty School. Through exploring different techniques while gaining formal training, she reaffirmed her love for the care and patience it took to execute the intricacies of natural styles. She adores sculpting the hair into complex cornrow designs, and twists, but her keenness to further develop herself as a Hairstylist allows her to do so much more,
